Texas Rangers Dealing with Another Worrisome Injury to Key Contributor

Position players haven't even had official workouts yet for the Texas Rangers, but third baseman Josh Jung is already dealing with a troubling injury.

Position players haven't even had official workouts yet for the Texas Rangers, and the team is already dealing with a troubling injury situation.

Per Jeff Wilson of RangersToday on social media:

#Rangers news: Josh Jung sustained left calf discomfort while taking ground balls this morning in Surprise. The club will continue to evaluate the calf by conducting an MRI. The team will relay updates as they are available.

The 26-year-old is a huge part of what the Rangers do and is a force in the middle of their powerful order. He burst onto the scene last season, hitting .266 with 23 homers and 70 RBI. He earned an All-Star nod and finished fourth in the American League Rookie of the Year voting as the Rangers won their first World Series title.

What's more concerning is that star shortstop Corey Seager had sports hernia surgery this offseason and is questionable for Opening Day, so the team could be looking at absences from the entire left side of their infield.

Despite the injury concerns, Texas remains one of the favorites in the American League. With Marcus Semien, Nate Lowe, Evan Carter and Adolis Garcia, the team has one of the deepest lineups in baseball (and that doesn't even include Jung and Seager).

They do have injury concerns on the mound as well as Max Scherzer, Jacob deGrom and Tyler Mahle are all out until least the middle of the summer.

Texas finished second in the American League West last season, earning a wild card spot in the playoffs and then defeating the Rays, Orioles, Astros and Diamondbacks on the way to the title.
