Toronto Blue Jays' Bullpen Suddenly Dealing with Injuries to Key Pieces

The Toronto Blue Jays are dealing with injuries to key relievers Erik Swanson and Jordan Romano as Opening Day approaches, but neither is thought to be serious right now.

With Opening Day just nine days away, the Toronto Blue Jays are now dealing with multiple injuries in their bullpen.

Per Hazel Mae of Sportsnet:

Injury Updates: Jordan Romano is dealing with some right elbow inflammation. He's going to get an anti-inflammatory injection today, down from throwing for 3 days and then ramp back up. MRI showed no structural issues. (1/2)

Erik Swanson is dealing with right forearm tightness. He had an MRI, no injury or inflammation according to John Schneider. No throwing for a day or two, then get back at it. "Hopefully, we got a week left and kind of see how he bounces back, and go from there."

The 30-year-old Swanson is coming off a season in which he went 4-2 with a 2.97 ERA in 69 games. He was an integral part of the Jays making the playoffs for the second straight year as well. He struck out 75 batters in 66.2 innings.

Lifetime, Swanson has a 3.78 ERA in five seasons with the Seattle Mariners and Blue Jays. He was traded from Seattle to Toronto before the 2023 season in the deal that sent Teoscar Hernandez to Seattle.

He's become an extremely valuable bullpen arm in the last two years, making 57 and 69 appearances. He is the set-up man to Romano.

Romano, 30, is 19-15 in his career with a 2.67 ERA. He's coming off a year in which he saved 36 games for the Jays, striking out 72 batters in 59.0 innings.

He has made the All-Star Game in consecutive seasons.
