Report: Multiple Teams Now in Discussions with Chicago White Sox About a Dylan Cease Trade

According to MLB Insider Bob Nightengale of USA Today, multiple teams are now engaged with the Chicago White Sox about a possible acquisition of starting pitcher Dylan Cease.

Atlanta has joined the Dodgers and several others who are engaged in trade talks with the Chicago White Sox for ace Dylan Cease.

The run on starting pitchers is happening now with Aaron Nola re-upping with the Phillies, Kenta Maeda signing with the Tigers and Sonny Gray on the verge of signing with the Cardinals. While several teams are also connected to Japanese ace Yoshinobu Yamamoto, teams are trying to make sure they don't get shut out of the elite starting pitcher market. Blake Snell and Jordan Montgomery are also still available on the free agent market.

New White Sox general manager Chris Getz has said he's willing to listen to offers on any player on the roster, and that has proven true already this offseason. The team dealt top reliever Aaron Bummer to the Atlanta Braves recently.

While a trade of Cease could be painful for Sox fans, it could help re-jumpstart the path to contention. The White Sox just need talent, and Cease is one of the best remaining assets on the roster that could net that.

Chicago finished with the third-worst record in the American League this past season.

The 27-year-old Cease struggled in 2023, just as the White Sox did. He went 7-9 with a 4.58 ERA. He's still an elite strikeout artist, fanning 214 batters in 177.0 innings. Lifetime, he's 43-35 with a 4.58 ERA. He finished second in American League Cy Young voting in 2022.
