One day after making some changes to their Major League on-field coaching staff, the Baltimore Orioles are also making some changes to the front office.

Per Roch Kubatko of MASN:

#orioles have promoted Anthony Villa to Director of Player Development, per a source. Villa served as minor league hitting coordinator this season. He takes over for Matt Blood, who was promoted to Vice President of Player Development and Domestic Scouting

Source with knowledge of the situation confirmed this to The Banner. Anthony Villa, minor league hitting coordinator, is taking over Matt Blood’s former role as director of player development. Blood was promoted to VP of player development and domestic scouting

It's unclear how this will impact anything in the O's organization for 2024, but it's still noteworthy to see changes in the structure of a team that is coming off a great season. The O's went 101-61 this year, winning the American League East and posting the best record in the AL. Unfortunately, they were beaten in three games in the ALDS by the Texas Rangers, who are about to open up the World Series.

Baltimore has one of the best young cores in all of baseball, so they should be excellent again in 2024, but if they want to get over the hump, they may need to look to spend more on the open market this offseason. They could use some bullpen help since closer Felix Bautista is out for the year, and could also look to add to the starting rotation.
