Boston Red Sox Hire Former Rival Hitting Coach to Help Organization
As the Boston Red Sox look to get themselves out of the American League East basement in 2024, they've made a nice hire in their hitting department.

Dillon Lawson, the New York Yankees’ former big-league hitting coach, has joined the Boston Red Sox as a hitting coordinator, Lawson told The Athletic. His focus will be on working with the club’s upper-level minor leaguers.
“I’m excited to be joining a great team that’s already moving in the right direction,” he said.
Any time that you can get someone with significant major league experience and can pair them with your minor leaguers, that's a win for an organization.
Lawson was fired by the Yankees in July of 2023.

He spent his first three seasons in the organization (2019-21) as the Yankees’ Minor League hitting coordinator, where he popularized the mantra of, “Hit strikes hard.” Prior to joining the Yankees, Lawson spent two seasons with the Astros organization, serving as the hitting coach for Single-A Quad Cities in 2018 and short-season Single-A Tri-City in 2016.
This hire is an important one for the Red Sox, who have multiple prospects who are getting ready to reach the upper levels of the minor leagues. Top prospect Marcelo Mayer is someone that the organization is banking on, maybe as early as this year, while Nick Yorke isn't far behind. Top outfield prospect Ceddanne Rafaela could also start the year at Triple-A and get some work with Lawson.
