Hamlin, who is a Pittsburgh native and played college football at the University of Pittsburgh, was rocking the Pirates new 'City Connect' jerseys as well. It was the first time that the team had worn the new jerseys.
Hamlin has played two seasons in the NFL for the Bills since being drafted out of Pittsburgh in 2021. He has played in 29 games and has started 13 games. He was a sixth-round pick.
He became a nation-wide feel-good story at the end of 2022 season when a potentially tragic moment was turned heartwarming.
During a game against the Cincinnati Bengals on January 2nd, 'Hamlin went into cardiac arrest. The training staff's quick actions on the field helped resuscitate Hamlin using CPR and an automated external defibrillator before he was taken to an area hospital for further treatment.
Hamlin, 25, announced in April that he has been cleared physically to resume playing,' The parts in quotations are taken from an ESPN.com story which you can read here.
Hamlin took in a Pirates victory as well as the Pirates beat the San Diego Padres, 9-4. Pirates prospect Nick Gonzales hit his first major league homer in the win.
Pittsburgh is now 36-42 on the year and five games back in the National League Central.
The two teams will play again on Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. ET.
