The Chicago Cubs might be disappointing this season, but pitcher Marcus Stroman is not.

Stroman dominated the San Diego Padres on Sunday, tossing six innings of no-earned run ball (one run total) in a 7-1 Cubs win.

He allowed four hits and three walks while striking out six. He moved to 6-4 in the win and lowered his ERA to 2.39.

His big performances are even bigger for the Cubs considering that ace Justin Steele went on the injured list this week with a forearm issue.

By tossing another quality start, Stroman now leads the big leagues in that category. He has 11 quality starts this season. His ERA is second in the National League.

Stroman is in his second year in Chicago after spending 5.5 years in Toronto and 1.5 years in New York with the Mets.

Lifetime, he's 73-71 with a 3.54 ERA.

He was a first-round pick of the Blue Jays in the 2012 draft out of Duke University.

After the win, the Cubs are now 26-32 on the season and in third place in the National League Central. They trail the first-place Milwaukee Brewers by 5.5 games and the second-place Pittsburgh Pirates by 5.0 games.

The Cubs will play the Padres again on Monday night at 9:10 p.m. ET. Kyle Hendricks will pitch for Chicago while Blake Snell will go for San Diego.

After that, the Cubs will stay on the West Coast and take on the Los Angeles Angels for a series beginning on Tuesday.
