Chicago White Sox closer Liam Hendriks is getting set to make his season debut.

After announcing that he was cancer free in April, Hendriks has completed his rehab assignment and is on the verge of activation.

The following update comes from the Yahoo! Sports fantasy baseball portal via Jeff Passan of ESPN.

Liam Hendriks told Jeff Passan of ESPN that he's slated to throw live batting practice on Friday in anticipation of being activated for his season debut.

Advice: Great news. Hendriks has allowed six runs in five innings with a 5/1 K/BB ratio over six appearances with Triple-A Charlotte, but the good news is that he's healthy and in remission following his diagnosis of stage 4 non-Hodgkins lymphoma. It's not unexpected that he would need some time to shake the rust and feel like himself on the mound. That's what the White Sox will evaluate as they make plans for his incredible return. It could happen sometime in the next few days.

Hendriks is one of the top closers in the league, having wrapped up 115 career saves, nearly all of which have come since 2019. He led the league in 2021 in saves with 38 for the White Sox.

Hendriks will be entering his 13th major league season and has spent time with the Twins, Royals, Blue Jays, Athletics and White Sox. He's a three-time all-star (2019, 2021-2022) and we certainly congratulate him on his getting back to the big leagues.

The White Sox are opening a series on Friday with the Kansas City Royals. First pitch is 8:10 p.m. ET.
