Chicago White Sox' Primary DH Could Make Return to the Field in 2024

According to MLB.com's Scott Merkin, the Chicago White Sox could utilize Eloy Jimenez in right field in 2024 after barely using him in the field in 2023.

Though he has primarily transitioned to designated hitter, Chicago White Sox' slugger Eloy Jimenez could continue to see some time on defense in 2024.

Per Scott Merkin of MLB.com:

The dynamic right-handed-hitting presence had his second career season with at least 120 games played in 2023, knocking out 18 homers and a career-high 23 doubles to go with his 64 RBIs. Jiménez has shown potential for 30-plus home runs. With one guaranteed year left on his deal (team options in ’25 and ’26), the White Sox hope for Jiménez to get back to that level. He could see a few games in right field.

The 27-year-old played just 14 games in right field during the 2023 season so we can't imagine him seeing a ton of time out there, but if he has the ability to do it occasionally, it could help the White Sox with versatility and lineup construction. As of now, the team figures to have Andrew Benintendi and Luis Robert Jr. as everyday outfielders, with Oscar Colas, Kevin Pillar and Dominic Fletcher serving as potentials in right.

Prior to 2023, Jimenez had never played a game in right field in the majors. He has played in 235 games in left field.

Regardless of where he plays positionally, Jimenez's calling card is his offense. A lifetime .275 hitter, he has 89 career home runs. He has struggled to stay healthy but if he can, the White Sox will be much better off this year.

He hit a career-high 31 homers back in 2019.
