Former Rookie of the Year Winner Drawing Interest on Trade Market This Offseason

According to MLB Network Insider Jon Morosi, the Cincinnati Reds are receiving significant trade interest in second baseman and former National League Rookie of the Year Jonathan India.

Former National League Rookie of the Year winner Jonathan India is receiving significant interest on the trade market this offseason, according to Jon Morosi of MLB Network.

Jonathan India is a popular name among execs at the @MLB GM Meetings. Multiple teams have inquired to the Reds about his availability. Reds will listen to offers due to their position-player depth, but they value India highly and aren't motivated to move him.

This makes sense all around. The Reds have one of the youngest teams in all of baseball and are loaded with position player depth including Elly De La Cruz, Spencer Steer, Christian Encarnacion-Strand and Matt McLain. They likely can afford to move India - especially if they were to get some starting pitching - which was their downfall in 2023.

Other teams clearly know about the glut of young talent the Reds have, so them asking about India is logical too.

The 26-year-old India won the Rookie of the Year award in 2021 but has not been as good in each successive year. He hit .269 with 21 homers in 2021 while posting a .376 on-base percentage. He played just 103 games in 2022, hitting .249 with 10 homers. This past year, he played 119 games, hitting .244 with a .338 on-base percentage. He had 17 home runs.

Teams with starting pitching to spare and with needs at second base could be suitors for India. The Seattle Mariners for instance, fit both of those descriptions.

Cincinnati missed the playoffs on the final weekend of the regular season this year.
