Detroit Tigers Will Be Without Key Lineup Piece Until Middle of Next Week

In this story:
The Detroit Tigers will be without shortstop Javier Baez until at least the middle of next week after he was placed on the bereavement list.
The following update comes from the Rotowire fantasy baseball portal:
The Tigers placed Baez (knee) on the bereavement list Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Baez had been a candidate to go on the bereavement list for nearly a week following the recent passing of his grandfather, but he ended up starting in four straight games before he was scratched from the lineup ahead of Saturday's 6-2 win over the Red Sox due to a sore right knee. Baez apparently picked up the injury Friday, and he'll now get some added time to heal up while he returns to his native Puerto Rico to attend his grandfather's funeral and mourn with his family. Per MLB rules, players must spent at least three days -- and no more than seven -- on the bereavement list, so Baez could rejoin the Tigers as soon as Wednesday for the team's game in Minnesota.
The 30-year-old is having a tough second season in Detroit, but that pales in comparison to his personal situation at this time.
He's hitting .221 with seven homers and 50 RBI. He signed a six-year deal worth $140 million before the 2022 season.
He's in his 10th major league season with the Cubs, Mets and Tigers. He's a lifetime .256 hitter who is a two-time All-Star, a Gold Glove winner and a World Series champion (2016).
The Tigers are finishing a series with the Red Sox on Sunday before taking on the Twins.
