Former Houston Astros Top Prospect Sticks in Korea For a Second Year

Ronnie Dawson, a former second-round pick of the Houston Astros, is sticking around in the KBO for a second year after a good run there in 2023.

Ronnie Dawson, a former second-round pick of the Houston Astros, is sticking in the KBO for the 2024 season.

After playing 57 games in 2023 with the Kiwoom Heroes, Dawson is signing with them again.

The following comes from Dan Kurtz, a KBO Insider:

Kiwoom announced that they have re-signed Ronnie Dawson for a total of $600K ($550K salary and $50K incentives).

Dawson was a second-round pick of Houston in the 2016 draft out of Ohio State. The 28-year-old made his major league debut with Houston in 2021 and played one game with the Reds in 2022. He has four career games at the MLB level.

He played independent baseball in the first half of 2023 before heading to Korea.

Per MLBTradeRumors:

In April of 2023, he signed with the Lexington Counter Clocks of the Atlantic League and hit a solid .282/.363/.512 in 64 games for that club.

He was able to parlay that into a job with the Heroes in July, then got into 57 games for that club in the second half. He hit just three home runs but was hard to get out, as he slashed .336/.399/.454. He also stole nine bases while getting caught just twice and lined up defensively in center and left field.

Dawson was ranked the #13 prospect in the Astros organization back in 2019, ranking below popular household names like Kyle Tucker, Yordan Alvarez and Framber Valdez.

He did not rank in the Top 30 prospects in the organization in the 2020 season.
