Former New York Yankees, Seattle Mariners' Star Joins Mexican League For 2024

It was announced on Friday that former New York Yankees, Seattle Mariners and New York Mets' star Robinson Cano has signed on for the 2024 season with a team in the Mexican League. Cano is now 41 years old.

Former New York Yankees, Seattle Mariners and New York Mets' star Robinson Cano has signed on with the Diablos Rojos of the Mexican League for the 2024 season.

The team made the announcement on social media. The announcement came in Spanish, but it translates this way via "X:"

The legend arrived in the baseball capital, an impeccable hitter, a tireless defender. This player needs no introduction. Welcome to your new home

@RobinsonCano

The 41-year-old Cano played parts of 17 seasons in the big leagues with those three teams plus the San Diego Padres and Atlanta Braves. He last appeared in the big leagues during the 2022 season and has been playing in the Dominican Republic since.

One of the best players of his generation, Cano helped the Yankees in the 2009 World Series and was an eight-time All-Star. He was a five-time Silver Slugger, a two-time Gold Glover, an All-Star Game MVP and a Home Run Derby champion.

He made five All-Star Games with New York and three with Seattle. Lifetime, he was a .301 hitter with a .351 on-base percentage. He hit 335 homers and drove in 1,306 runs. He also represented the Dominican Republic in the World Baseball Classic.

Unfortunately, as good as Cano was, he was also marred by controversy, having been suspended twice for performance-enhancing drugs.

Unfortunately, those suspensions and a decline in skills have led to the likely end of his major league career, but it is good to see him still playing the game. His name recognition alone makes him a draw for fans all over the world still.
