Former New York Yankees' slugger Greg Bird has signed onto play in the Mexican League for the 2024 season.

The following comes from MLBTradeRumors:

First baseman Greg Bird has reportedly signed with the Mexican League’s Charros de Jalisco, according to MiLB.com. The slugger had previously been playing in the Australian Baseball League, which announced Bird’s departure on Instagram earlier today.

Bird is the third player in the last few days to sign on in Mexico, following former All-Star Robinson Cano and the versatile Harold Castro.

The 31-year-old Bird was once thought of as the Yankees' solution at first base, but just hasn't been able to stay healthy with any real consistency. He's played parts of four years in the big leagues, all with the Yankees, making his debut in 2015. He hit .261 in his rookie year with 11 homers but has failed to hit even .200 over any other season.

He's dealt with multiple injuries, including a labrum tear that cost him all of the 2016 season. Bird has never played more than 82 games in a season.

Since his last major league appearance, he has signed on with multiple organizations and has played in both Australia and in the Frontier League.

If Bird plays well in Mexico, there's always a chance that he could find himself back in affiliated ball, but given his health concerns and lack of production, he'll have to have a sustained run of success in Mexico in order to get a look.

Still young though, there's always a chance.
