Source of Frustration For Seattle Mariners' Fans Signs with Baltimore Orioles

Former Gold Glove winning second baseman Kolten Wong, who has played for the St. Louis Cardinals, Milwaukee Brewers, Seattle Mariners and Los Angeles Dodgers, has signed with the Baltimore Orioles.

After signing free agent pitcher Julio Teheran on Wednesday, the Baltimore Orioles have also signed free agent infielder Kolten Wong.

Per Jon Heyman of the New York Post:

Orioles sign Kolten Wong

The Orioles have one of the most intriguing young infields in all of baseball with Rookie of the Year Gunnar Henderson, top prospect Jackson Holliday and fellow prospect Jordan Westburg giving it plenty of sizzle.

Wong wouldn't appear to have a clear path to playing time at second base, unless management deems Holliday not ready to make the roster out of camp. He had seemed to have a leg up through the offseason.

All in all, the 33-year-old Wong is an 11-year veteran who has played with the St. Louis Cardinals, Milwaukee Brewers, Seattle Mariners and Los Angeles Dodgers. He's had an accomplished career, winning two Gold Gloves, but he really did fall off in a big way in 2023.

Traded from the Brewers to the Mariners last offseason, Wong hit .165 with Seattle over 67 games before being released. The team had been hoping that Wong could provide some stability to the position, but he was unable to do so. He did rebound once getting to LA, hitting .300 with two home runs over 30 at-bats. He made the Dodgers' playoff roster as well.

Lifetime, he's a .256 hitter who hit a career-high 15 homers for the Brewers in 2022.
