Former Toronto Blue Jays All-Star Set to Throw For Teams as He Looks to Get Career Back on Track

In this story:
Former Toronto Blue Jays All-Star Aaron Sanchez, who has dealt with injury and ineffectiveness for the last several years, is set to throw for teams on Friday as he looks to make it back to the major leagues.
Per Robert Murray of Fansided on social media:
Right-hander Aaron Sanchez is throwing a bullpen for teams on Feb. 9 at Summers Method in Clearwater, FL.
Sanchez, who was an All-Star in 2016, most recently pitched in the majors in 2022 and has a 4.16 ERA in eight career seasons.

The 31-year-old began his career with Toronto in 2014 and instantly made an impact on the Jays rotation. In fact, he looked like a future pillar of a rotation after making the All-Star Game in 2016 and finishing that year 15-2 with an AL-best 3.00 ERA.
However, he made just eight appearances in 2017 and then pitched to a 4.89 ERA in 2018 over 20 appearances. Sanchez made 27 starts in a healthier 2019, but had a 5.89 ERA and was traded to the Houston Astros as well. He didn't pitch in the COVID 2020 season and has made just 24 appearances since 2021. Sanchez was not in the majors at all last season.
It would stand to reason that Sanchez could get a minor league contract with an invite to spring training given his age and past productivity. A non-contending team like the Athletics or Nationals may be willing to give him an opportunity in the rotation, but beyond that, he may be fighting for a bullpen spot somewhere or could be used as minor league depth.
