The Miami Marlins enter play on Tuesday at 78-73 and just 0.5 games back in the chase for the final wild card spot in the National League playoff race.

The Fish are seeking their first playoff spot since the COVID 2020 season and just their second since 2003, when they won the World Series.

As Miami battles down the stretch, they are counting on some new help out of the bullpen.

Per Jeff Passan of ESPN:

The Miami Marlins claimed left-handed reliever Matt Moore off waivers from the Cleveland Guardians, sources tell ESPN. Moore had joined Cleveland off waivers from the Los Angeles Angels earlier this month. He will not be postseason-eligible if the Marlins snag a wild-card spot.

Moore isn't eligible for the playoffs because he wasn't on the roster on Sept. 1, but he can still help Miami get to the playoffs potentially.

The 34-year-old lefty has had a very good season between the Angels and Guardians this year, going 4-1 with a 2.77 ERA. He's appeared in 46 games, striking out 57 batters in 48.2 innings.

He's in his 12th big league season with the Rays, Giants, Rangers, Tigers, Phillies, Angels and Cleveland. Lifetime, he's 65-63 with a 4.37 ERA.

The Marlins are hosting the New York Mets at loanDepot park on Tuesday. First pitch is set for 6:40 p.m.

In a battle of left-handed starters, Joey Lucchesi goes for the Mets while Braxton Garrett pitches for Miami.

Lucchesi is 3-0 with a 2.83 ERA while Garrett is 9-6 with a 3.67.
