Milwaukee Brewers Add Former Fan Favorite to Major League Coaching Staff

The Milwaukee Brewers have added former big league infielder Rickie Weeks to the coaching staff under new manager Pat Murphy.

The Milwaukee Brewers have announced that they've added former big league infielder Rickie Weeks to their Major League coaching staff for 2024.

Weeks interviewed for the manager's job, which ultimately went to Pat Murphy, but will nevertheless be part of the staff.

Per Adam McCalvey of MLB.com:

The club made it official on Wednesday by promoting Pat Murphy to manager after he served as Milwaukee’s bench coach for the past eight seasons. The club also confirmed that former Milwaukee infielder Rickie Weeks is joining the Major League staff in the role of associate manager to backfill Murphy’s spot, continuing a meteoric rise through the coaching ranks that began with Weeks’ hiring as a player development assistant in February 2022.

Murphy had been the bench coach for previous manager Craig Counsell. It's not sure yet if Weeks will have that role or not.

The 41-year-old was an All-Star in 2011 and spent 11 years with the Brewers. He also played for the Rays, Diamondbacks and Mariners.

Lifetime, he was a .246 hitter with 161 homers. He also stole 132 career bases.

The Brewers won the National League Central this past season but enter 2024 with a bevy of questions. First, there's the questions of whether or not they will look to trade Corbin Burnes and/or Willy Adames. Both players could be moved in an effort to save money.

Next, Brandon Woodruff, another ace on the mound, is expected to miss the entire season with a shoulder issue. Finally, the division around Milwaukee is getting much better and it won't be as easy for them to repeat next season.
