The New York Yankees won't have legendary radio broadcaster John Sterling with them for the next two weeks.

The New York Post reports that Sterling won't be with the team when they host the Padres this weekend, and then won't travel to the West Coast. He'll be back at work on June 6.

While the above tweet is from "Awful Announcing," the following excerpt comes from the Post and its reporting from Andrew Marchand.

“Don’t worry about me, you can tell your readers,” Sterling told The Post. “I’ll be back soon.”

After not going to Seattle or Los Angeles next week, Sterling will have missed 23 of the Yankees’ first 61 games.

Justin Shackil will continue to fill in for Sterling as Suzyn Waldman’s partner on all the games.

WFAN hired Shackil this year so he could spell Sterling when needed.

Sterling, 84, has been broadcasting for the Yankees since 1989.

The Yankees are currently 30-22 and in third place in the American League East. They've won seven of their last 10 games and are now seven games behind the Tampa Bay Rays in the division.

The Baltimore Orioles are sandwiched in-between Tampa and New York at 33-17. They just took two of three from the Yankees this week.

The Yankees and Padres open up their series on Friday night at Yankee Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. ET. San Diego enters the matchup at 23-27 and in fourth place in the National League West.

The Yankees will travel to Seattle on Monday.
