San Francisco Giants Ace Logan Webb Does Something He's Never Done Before in Saturday Loss

The San Francisco Giants lost to the Washington Nationals on Saturday, 10-1, in what was an uncharacteristically poor outing from ace Logan Webb.

The San Francisco Giants were beaten by the Washington Nationals on Saturday, 10-1, in a game that featured an uncharacteristically poor start from Giants ace Logan Webb.

The following update comes from the Rotowire fantasy baseball portal:

Webb (8-8) took the loss against Washington on Saturday, allowing six runs on five hits and one walk while striking out two batters over 1.1 innings.

ANALYSIS

Webb's outing began well, as he retired the side in order in the first frame. Things unraveled for him in the second, however, as six of the seven batters he faced reach base, culminated by a CJ Abrams two-run homer that was followed by Webb getting the hook. The right-hander tossed 41 pitches and got just one out in the second inning, and his departure after 1.1 frames marked the shortest outing of his career. Webb had been pitching well coming into the contest -- he compiled a 1.59 ERA, 0.88 WHIP and 28:2 K:BB over 22.2 innings covering his past three starts -- so Saturday's disaster should be viewed as an aberration rather than an expectation.

The shortest outing of his career is certainly not what you'd expect against the last-place Nationals, but that's baseball for you.

For the season, he's still 8-8 with a 3.48 ERA.

Lifetime, he's 39-27 with an identical 3.48 ERA.

The two teams will play again on Sunday afternoon at 1:35 p.m. ET.

The Giants haven't named a starter as of this posting, but the Nationals will counter with MacKenzie Gore.
