Seattle Mariners Send Popular Utility Player to Triple-A

After undergoing an unannounced medical procedure during spring training, the Seattle Mariners activated and optioned popular utility player Sam Haggerty to Triple-A Tacoma.

After undergoing an unannounced medical procedure in spring training, Sam Haggerty has been officially activated and optioned to Triple-A by the Seattle Mariners.

Mariners PR put out the information in advance of Wednesday's game against the Cincinnati Reds:

Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Justin Hollander announced today that INF/OF Sam Haggerty has been reinstated from the 10-day Injured List and optioned to Triple-A Tacoma.

The 29-year-old is a popular Mariners player because of his speed, size and ability to play all over the diamond. He's spent parts of five seasons in the big leagues with the Mets and Mariners and saw his most success during the 2022 season, when he hit .256 with 13 stolen bases in 176 at-bats. He was an integral part of the M's making the playoffs that year but was unfortunately able to play in the playoffs after getting hurt at the end of the season.

Should the M's need any help covering for injuries in the infield, Haggerty would figure to be the next man up but for now, he'll get re-acclimated in Triple-A.

The Mariners enter play on Wednesday at 8-10 overall but they've won two straight games. They'll take on the Cincinnati Reds at T-Mobile Park. Left-hander Andrew Abbott goes up against M's righty Bryce Miller in a battle of two young starters.

After this game, Seattle will be off on Thursday. They'll head to Colorado for a weekend series with the Rockies at Coors Field following the off day.
