The Cleveland Guardians will play the San Diego Padres Wednesday night at 9:40 p.m. ET at the Padres' spring training home, the Peoria Sports Complex, in Peoria, Arizona.

Triston McKenzie will start for the Guardians. McKenzie experienced a breakout season in 2022, after a lackluster 2021. McKenzie dropped his ERA by nearly two runs from 2021 to 2022, posting a 2.96 ERA, one year after logging a 4.95 ERA.

McKenzie is a key piece of a Guardians' pitching rotation which includes Shane Bieber, Aaron Civale, Zach Plesac, Cal Quantrill and Cody Morris.

Newly signed Michael Wacha will take the mound for the Padres. Wacha also is coming off an impressive 2022 season, in which he posted his lowest ERA (3.32) in a season since 2018, earning him a one-year deal with the Padres.

In addition to Wacha, the Padres' pitching rotation will feature Yu Darvish, Joe Musgrove, Blake Snell, Nick Martinez and Seth Lugo. Lugo has pitched solely in relief in recent years, but has been given the chance to compete for a spot in the Padres' rotation.
