Team Japan and Team Mexico will meet Monday night in the World Baseball Classic semifinal at loanDepot Park in Miami, Florida.

Japan (5-0) has not lost a game in the 2023 World Baseball Classic. Japan is trying to win its third WBC title since the event was created in 2006. Japan took home the gold in 2006 in 2009, then placed third in 2013 and 2017.

Team Mexico is playing in its first semifinal in WBC history. This is the furthest Team Mexico has ever gotten into the World Baseball Classic.

Team Mexico will turn to Patrick Sandoval, the Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher, with their championship hopes on the line. Team Japan will start Roki Sasaki opposite Sandoval. The winner will advance to the WBC championship game Tuesday night and play Team USA.

Team USA defeated Team Cuba 14-2 in the semifinals Sunday night.
