Superstar NFL QB and Kansas City Royals Part-Owner Patrick Mahomes Dishes on How Hard Baseball is vs. Football

Speaking on the FOX NFL Sunday pregame show, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who is part-owner of the Kansas City Royals, spoke about how hard baseball is in comparison to football.

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes threw for 272 yards and three touchdowns on Sunday as the Chiefs rolled the Chicago Bears 41-10. They are now 2-1 on the young NFL season.

But before he took the field in the NFL, he was part of the FOX NFL Sunday pregame show where he dished a little bit on playing both football and baseball and the comparison between the two.

Per Danny Vietti of CBS Sports:

In a FOX Sports interview with Derek Jeter, Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes was asked which sport is harder to play: baseball or football?

Mahomes: “Hitting a baseball has got to be one of the toughest things to do in the world.”

Good to see Mahomes giving a little love to baseball on a Football Sunday! Mahomes has deep ties to baseball, having purchased a partial ownership stake in the Kansas City Royals in 2020. His father, Pat Mahomes, also pitched in more than 300 MLB games, getting to the NLCS with the New York Mets in 1999.

Patrick was also a baseball prospect and was drafted in the 2014 draft by the Detroit Tigers but elected to go to college and play football at Texas Tech.

An MLB.com article on Mahomes's baseball skillset discussed more of his baseball-playing background.

As a high schooler, he possessed a low-90s fastball as well as a curve that scouts said generated some swings and misses. He also had a changeup, though rarely threw it.

He did play in three games as a freshman on the Texas Tech baseball team.
