Current Oakland Athletics infielder and former Astros infielder Aledmys Díaz is sending a message this season through his mismatched batting gloves: It's OK to be different.

Despite playing for a team whose color scheme is green and yellow, Díaz is wearing a blue batting glove on his left hand a red batting glove on his right hand.

Why? To raise awareness for autism. His six-year-old son is autistic and he wants to send the message that it's OK to be different and that each person should be accepted and celebrated.

The article above from UniWatch, an online site detailing all things uniform-related, found a quote from Díaz about the initiative.

“Using two different batting gloves, it’s a message: We have to accept people the way they are and try to help them to adapt to society.”

The article also references Nationals outfielder Corey Dickerson, who says he plans to wear mismatched batting gloves this season, but he's currently injured.

As for Díaz, he signed a two-year, $14.5 million contract with the A's this offseason. Through three games, he's hitting .273 with an RBI. The A's are 1-2 after losing two of three to the Angels this weekend.

The 32-year-old infielder is a lifetime .265 hitter and has spent time with the Cardinals (2016-2017), the Blue Jays (2018) and the Astros (2019-2022). He helped the Astros win the World Series in 2022.
