Los Angeles Angels outfielder Taylor Ward robbed a would-be go ahead grand slam on Monday night vs. the Oakland Athletics.

In the top of the ninth inning with the score tied at 8-8 Shea Langaliers hit a ball to deep left that Ward caught over the short wall in left field. You can watch the catch below, courtesy of baseball personality Jared Carrabis.

It's one of the best catches in the early going of the season, maybe in competition with this catch from Blue Jays OF Kevin Kiermaier.

Ward is known as a good offensive player but we don't hear much about his defensive ability. He's actually struggling at the plate this year, hitting .218 to this point in the season with three home runs and nine RBIs. For his career, he's a .253 hitter with 41 home runs and 129 RBI.

He made his major league debut in the 2018 season, playing 40 games with the Angels. He played 20 in 2019, 34 in the COVID-shortened 2020 season, 65 in 2021 and then 135 a season ago.

If the Angels are to make the playoffs this year and win their first playoff game since 2009, Ward would have to figure to be a good complement to Mike Trout, Shohei Ohtani and Anthony Rendon.

At the time of this posting, the game is still tied 8-8 in the top of the 10th inning.

This game has had a little bit of everything as the A's actually made some team history as well.
