Rising Mexican Prodigy Set to Shine at UFC Mexico Event

Why you should watch Daniel Zellhuber at UFC Mexico.

Daniel Zellhuber is a fighter flying under the radar for many fans this weekend at UFC Mexico.

The 24-year-old Mexican lightweight sits just beneath the high-profile co-main event between Brian Ortega and Yair Rodriguez. The "Golden Boy" fights another young lightweight in Francisco Prado, a 21-year-old finisher looking to test his mettle.

While Prado also looks to be a promising prospect, Zellhuber has won three UFC-caliber fights, including high-tier victories over veterans Lando Vannata and Christos Giagos. Zellhuber's sole professional defeat was to the experienced Trey Ogden in his UFC debut.

Standing at 6'1", Zellhuber is head and shoulders above most of the lightweight roster. The lanky Mexican is first and foremost a striker who likes to draw out his opponents and lead them into his power.

Zellhuber's rear uppercut and lead hook are some of his most dangerous strikes. Since Zellhuber keeps his opponents at kicking range, they are forced to enter the counter-strike range to pressure him and often find themselves on the receiving end of these shots. "Golden Boy" also likes to prod with the rear teep to his opponent's gut, keeping them at his preferred range.

If the fight hits the ground, Zellhuber is a proficient grappler, with finishes by Anaconda Choke and Calf Slicer on his record. "Golden Boy" bolsters all this with impressive durability, as evidenced in his fight with Giagos.

Despite also appearing at Noche UFC last year, Zellhuber will be granted the biggest stage of his career when he enters the octagon in Mexico City this weekend. The Xtreme Couture student will be one of 10 Mexican fighters vying for their chance to steal the limelight.

Keep an eye out for this top young prospect.
