BREAKING: Dustin Poirier Reveals Shocking UFC 299 Fight Update: "My Fight's Off"

UFC 299 might be down a fight, and it's a big one.
Dustin Poirier was scheduled to meet Benoit Saint-Denis inside the Kaseya Center in Miami, Florida on March 9. Many believed it would be a tough matchup for "The Diamond." Poirier even opened up as a betting underdog for the fight.
Well, it looks like plans have gone awry.

"My fight's off," Poirier wrote. "But still working."
Then, an unusual twist surfaced.
Shakiel Mahjouri of CBS Sports was quick to provide an update from the camp of Benoit Saint-Denis. It appears Saint-Denis remains on the UFC 299 card.

We'll admit it, we were as confused as you were before ESPN's Brett Okamoto shared the following:
Dustin Poirier (@DustinPoirier) expands on his recent "fights off" tweet (against Benoit Saint-Denis at UFC 299) to me via text ... "There was no contractual agreement before the fight was announced and we couldn't come to terms."

"There was no contractual agreement before the fight was announced and we couldn't come to terms," Poirier wrote via text message.
Fight fans have reacted to the news with about as much disappointment as you'd expect. UFC 299 has been shaping up nicely, and it's to the point where a group of fans are wondering if some of those fights should've been saved for UFC 300.
The headliner for UFC 299 will be a bantamweight championship scrap between titleholder Sean O'Malley and Marlon "Chito" Vera. Fight fans will also witness the UFC debut of Michael "Venom" Page, as he will collide with Kevin Holland.
That's not all that's lined up for the card. Former UFC welterweight title challenger Gilbert Burns will provide a stern test for the rising Jack Della Maddalena. Plus, former UFC bantamweight champion Petr Yan will settle his grudge with Song Yadong.
MMA Knockout will keep you posted on Dustin Poirier's next fight and whether or not a replacement opponent for Saint-Denis will be locked down by the UFC brass.
