Texas Star Recruit Signs NIL Deal with Austin Car Dealership

Colin Simmons is already working NIL deals on the 40 Acres

Some of the early enrollees and transfers for Texas Longhorns football are already tapping into Name, Image and Likeness opportunities in Austin.

On Friday, On Texas Football’s CJ Vogel reported that several new Longhorns struck a deal with Vanguard Volkswagen.

One transfer, wide receiver Matthew Golden, and three early enrollees — Ryan Wingo, Colin Simmons and Kobe Black — were the quartet that struck a deal with Vanguard and posted about it on social media.

The players each posted a photo of them posing with a new car or truck, flashing the ‘Horns Up’ and standing beside a member of the dealership.

Simmons is notable in that he’s considered by most to be a five-star recruit who signed with Texas during the early period in December. The edge rusher enrolled in January to get a head start on the playbook in the hopes of making an impact as a true freshman.

Golden played wide receiver for the University of Houston last season and had 38 receptions for 404 yards and six touchdowns. In his two seasons with the Cougars he caught 13 touchdown passes.

Vanguard, which is owned by Chris Late, has done deals with other members of the 2023 class and has previously had partnerships with Quinn Ewers, Roschon Johnson and T’Vondre Sweat.

The Texas Longhorns are coming off a 12-2 season in which they won the Big 12 Championship for the first time since 2009, which was the season in which it made it last national championship game appearance.

The Longhorns were the No. 3 seed in the College Football Playoff and lost to No. 2 Washington, 37-31, in the CFP semifinal at the Sugar Bowl.

The Longhorns, along with the Oklahoma Sooners, will move to the SEC at the end of June.
