Athlete of the Week: Koby Jacobson Lights Up New Jersey Xtreme Bulls

Hawaii cowboy Koby Jacobson is looking to add his name to the history books as he pursues his first NFR.

Koby Jacobson is having the best season of his professional career, picking up significant paychecks across the nation. During the past week, the Hawaii cowboy made some big moves in the World Standings race.

After winning just over $17,000 in five days, he is now inside the top 20. With just $6,000 between him and the top 15, Jacobson could be headed to his first National Finals Rodeo (NFR) this year.

Cowtown Rodeo Xtreme Bulls - Woodstown Pilesgrove, NJ

The fourth annual Cowtown Rodeo Xtreme Bulls finished up on August 11, providing electric rides across three rounds of competition. Though multiple NFR qualifiers were competing at the event, it was Jacobson who topped the final round and marked the highest ride of the weekend.

While he didn't have much luck in the first round, the rest of his rides during the event made up for it. In Round 2, Jacobson drew Rafter G Rodeo's Undesire-a-bull, a bull who was unridden this season until he matched up against the Hawaii native. Jacobson went 85 points to break Undesire-a-bull's buckoff streak and place third in the round.

With an 85-point ride under his belt, Jacobson entered the finals in the No. 8 position, where he made the ride of a lifetime aboard JC Kitaif ProRodeos' Siesmic for a career-high of 92.5 points.

That monster score won the round and added $6,604 to Jacobson's season earnings. Once the dust settled at the Cowtown Rodeo Arena, Jacobson placed second in the average with 177.5 points on two head, bringing his Garden State earnings to a total of $13,400.

Rodeo Billings

After spending time on the East Coast, Jacobson headed west to Montana. At Rodeo Billings, he ended another bull's unridden streak during the first performance of the rodeo. Pickett Pro Rodeo Co.'s Eye On You took Jacobson to the pay window with an 83-point ride, placing third and winning another $3,714.

World Standings

Jacobson has put in the work this year to climb to No. 18 in the World Standings, and as of August 24, he has banked $109,916. With the NFR in his sights, he has the opportunity to become the second Hawaii native to qualify for the NFR in bull riding.

The Haiku, Hawaii cowboy, claims the Great Lakes as his home circuit, where he is ranked No. 4. Jacobson is currently ranked No. 18 in the Rank 45 Xtreme Bulls and No. 13 in the CINCH Playoff Series.
