The winter run for the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) and the Women's Professional Rodeo Association (WPRA) is coming to an end. The final stop of the large-purse rodeos is in San Angelo, Texas.

While the action in the arena has been going on for over a week, the first performance was held on April 5. The rodeo will have 10 regular performances plus a finals over the course of 14 days.

With $45,000 added per event, this is an important payday for many and could serve as a boost coming out of the winter season.

The barrel racers finished their entire first round on Monday, April 1. Wenda Johnson and her great horse "Moe" weren't foolin' around when they came down the alleyway. Johnson stopped the clock at 15.66 seconds, a full three-tenths of a second ahead of the second-place finisher, Kalli McCall, at 15.97. Those two cowgirls were the only ones to stop the clock under 16 seconds.

For the amazing effort, Johnson added $5,883 to her World Standings total. She is currently holding down the No. 8 position in the World Standings with $35,891 in winnings.

The rest of the timed events are set up in a back-to-back format, meaning that they run their two head of stock in two consecutive performances or both in slack. So, those events' first and second rounds will not be complete until the end of the rodeo, but we will give you an inside view into who is doing well so far.

In the steer wrestling, familiar name, World Champion Jacob Edler has the fastest time so far with a 3.6 in the first round. The second round was also won with a 3.6, but this time, it was Trever Nelson and Rooster Yazzie who accomplished the task. Cole Walker is the fastest cowboy on two head so far, with an 8.7 total on two.

The team roping has a tie for the lead of the first round with the teams Devon Johnson and Boogie Ray, and Max Kuttler and Caston Weidenbener at 4.2 seconds each. The second round got a bit faster, where a 3.7-second run by Chace Thompson and Chad Williams was 3.7 seconds. The average is being held down by James Arviso and JR Gonzalez, with a total time of 8.7 seconds on two.

The tie-down ropers brought the heat to the arena, as we have come to expect. Connor Atkinson was 7.8 seconds to be in the No. 1 spot through all of the slack and the first performance. The second round was a gun-slinging, flame-throwing contest. At a blazing 7.3 seconds, three cowboys—Marty Yates, Cash Enderli, and Zaine Mikita—were on top. Yates is also holding down the average with a total of 15.5 seconds on two. That is less than 8 seconds each, and folks—that's fast!

The breakaway roping has just had one performance to report about but none other than 26 time World Champion, Jackie Crawford was the fastest lady on the dirt with her 2.9 second run. Another legend, Lari Dee Guy finished second in the first performance with her 3.5 second run.

Ethan Mazurenko on Macza Pro Rodeo's OLS Tubs Stevie spurred his way to the top of the leaderboard for the bareback riding first round. Together, the pair gave the crowd a great show and put up a score of 86 points. Familiar Kansas cowboy Jess Pope is holding down second with 83 points.

The saddle bronc riding was exciting and full of good rides, with seven of the 10 cowboys covering their horses for the full 8 seconds. Jake Watson earned the most points in the first performance when he scored 82.5 points.

Pete Carr Pro Rodeo had to be proud of the performance of their bull, Bruised Kitty, who helped JR Stratford earn an amazing 90-point ride in the first round and be comfortably at the top of the leaderboard. Jackson Ward also covered a Pete Carr Pro Rodeo bull named Dirt Dobber to be in second with 86.5 points.

With much more rodeo action left, all of these things could change, but one thing is for sure: The competition has already been exciting and action-packed. Don't miss out on our updates. You can watch all of the action at San Angelo on the Cowboy Channel.
