Here is a breakdown of details you may want to know about the Playoff Series.

Format and Point System:

The format of the series is based on the distribution of points to contestants for their placings at each of the Playoff Series Rodeos. The points are awarded based on the total payout at a rodeo and vary depending on the format of the rodeo. Contestants who do not score or have no time at a rodeo will not be awarded points.

Playoff Series Standings:

The standings in the Playoff Series are determined by the accumulation of points earned by the contestants throughout the series. Points count for a contestant's ranking in the Playoff Series Standings only for rodeos designated as "official" entries. Additionally, turnout fines are doubled at the 2024 Playoff Series rodeos, and contestants can receive a maximum 10-point deduction for turning out.

Playoff Series Rodeos:

The rodeos included in the Playoff Series are held in various locations such as Odessa, Texas; Denver, Colorado; Fort Worth, Texas; San Antonio, Texas; and many others. Some prominent rodeos in the series include RodeoHouston, the Calgary Stampede, and the Ellensburg Rodeo. These rodeos are part of the 60 rodeos in the series, with 21 of them taking place between the Reno Rodeo in June and Cheyenne Frontier Days in July.

Playoff Series Finale:

The top 24 athletes in the standings on Aug. 26 will compete in the Playoff Series Finale in Puyallup, Washington. The 2024 NFR Open Champion will be seeded in the 13th position.

From there, the top four teams from the Finale, along with the top eight athletes in the year-end standings, will advance to the Cinch Playoffs Governor's Cup in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. This event offers a significant payout of $1 million across eight events and has a major impact on determining who qualifies for the National Finals Rodeo.
