As a sign that MLB Spring Training is quickly approaching, all of the major sportswear brands are finalizing their rosters for the upcoming season. On Tuesday afternoon, Nike announced the signing of Houston Astros left fielder Yordan Alvarez.
The 2x MLB All-Star is the latest addition to Nike's already remarkable roster of rising and established players in the show. True to form, Nike made the splashy announcement with a cool behind-the-scenes video showing Alvarez touring the brand's campus in Beaverton, Oregon.
Throughout the video, fans get a glimpse of Alvarez strolling through the offices at Nike HQ. Even better, there are brief moments showing Alvarez working with the design team on custom batting gloves, fielding gloves, and footwear.
Of course, he also took a moment to admire Drake and Travis Scott's sneakers with a glowing smile during his visit. Check out the Instagram video below to view the official announcement.
Signing Alvarez is another major victory for Nike, which already has 48% of MLB starters on its roster, according to a recent study. Alvarez has worn adidas on the field since his Rookie of the Year season in 2019 and throughout his two All-Star campaigns.
There are no indications that Alvarez's footwear and apparel contract is a signature deal. However, that could always change if the 26-year-old phenom continues to exceed expectations on the diamond.
Fans eager for the new MLB season can go ahead and stock up on Houston Astros gear on the Nike website. Stay locked into FanNationKicks.com for all of your most important sneaker news from the sports world.
