I've followed San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey since his days at Valor Christian in Colorado, where he left high school as the state's all-time leading rusher and one of the most decorated recruits in the country.

I sat down with Meleney, CEO of While On Earth and NOBULL's first employee, who helped build that brand into a $250 million company before starting this one.

He took me back to that first conversation with Christian, who picked up a pair of shoes, twisted them in his hands, and showed Meleney how little integrity they had. He's convinced a lot of his injury history traces back to training in shoes that couldn't hold up to what he was asking of them.

Meleney asked him a simple question: what would it take to build a better one? "Christian emphasized how important stability was," Meleney told me. That note became the foundation everything else was built on.

The upper is nylon over an EVA midsole, balancing softness against the rigidity of the heel counter and midfoot plate. The heel has a specific arch that keeps pressure off the Achilles and holds its shape under load.

Meleney said McCaffrey treats every piece of training equipment like an F1 team treats its car, obsessing over details most people never think twice about. That mentality shaped the TPU midfoot plate, built around proprioception, keeping him locked in rather than limiting his movement, and cutting torque during explosive, multidirectional work.

McCaffrey was just as deliberate about the look. Meleney described him as a classic guy with a defined sense of style, reflected in a design that stays understated on purpose: no oversized logo, nothing loud.
