SAN DIEGO, Calif.-- Granite Hills and Grossmont squared off for the third time during the 2022 regular season on Monday, but this time the stage was different. The two teams played at Petco Park in the first of six San Diego Section games that will be hosted at the stadium this week.

After a clean first two innings for both teams, Granite Hills broke through when infielder Spencer Davis blooped a single into centerfield that scored Hudson Beamon from second base. The Eagles added a second run in the fourth inning and two more in the sixth and led Grossmont 4-0 heading into the final frame.

Mason Dirkes led off the bottom of the seventh with a double for Grossmont, only their second hit of the day. After two straight outs, Jacob Lanza, representing Grossmont's final hope, looped a single that dropped perfectly between three defenders in left field, allowing Dirkes to score from second base and get the Foothillers on the board. Anthony Box-Augustine followed Lanza with a single before Joaquin Baez drew a walk to load the bases for leadoff hitter Justin Tucker.

Granite Hills freshman pitcher Brenden Lewis, the fifth pitcher used by the Eagles on Monday, regained his composure and struck out Tucker swinging to end the night and preserve the win.
