Central Florida football Week 7 rewind

OVIEDO, FLORIDA – Make it 5-0 for the first time in school history for the Hagerty Huskies.
Hagerty, which was established in 2005 in Oviedo, defeated Harmony 24-3 in a non-district game Friday night to remain unbeaten through the first half of the season. The Huskies joined Horizon, Lake Highland Prep, Tohopekaliga, Central Florida Christian Academy and Vero Beach as unbeaten Central Florida schools heading into mid-October.
Here are some of the highlights from Week 7:
Hagerty 24, Harmony 3, Oct. 7
The Huskies’ defense turned in yet another stellar performance, holding an opponent to seven points or less for the fifth time this season.
Erwin Eberhardt kicked three field goals, quarterback Anthony Benzija connected with Ian Miller on a TD pass, and Jeremiah Williams ran for a score for Hagerty (5-0). The Huskies led 6-0 at the end of the first quarter but slowly pulled away. It was Harmony’s second straight loss after a 3-0 start.
“Super proud of the kids after starting off sluggish but did enough to get the job done,” Harmony quarterbacks coach Richard Quinones said. “The defense led the way by shutting down the option game, holding them to a total of 77 yards and a field goal.
“Offense took a bit to get in a groove, but they did and we won the game,” Quinones said. “Erwin was solid for us at kicker and punter, made two field goals and flipped the field a few times when we punted.”

Horizon 27, Cypress Creek (Orlando) 20, overtime, Oct. 6
Senior running back Trei Ginn rushed for more than 80 yards and four touchdowns, including a 4-yard scamper in overtime, to lift the unbeaten Hawks to their fifth consecutive victory.
Second-year school Horizon took a 13-0 halftime lead before the Bears clawed their way back. Cypress Creek (4-2) scored three times in the third quarter, sandwiched around a Ginn TD run, to force a 20-20 tie.
Samari Watkins scored on a TD run, Naeem Woulard caught a TD pass, and Thaddeus Reese scored on a kickoff return for the Bears.
Jones 63, University (Orlando) 0, Oct. 6
The Tigers (3-2) scored a season-high for points and their biggest margin of victory in rising above .500 for the first time since Aug. 26.
Senior quarterback Maxson Jean-denis had a stellar day for Jones, throwing for three TDs. The Tigers led 28-0 at the end of the second quarter and 42-0 at halftime to force a running clock against University (1-5).
Jones last year advanced to the Class 6A state semifinals.
Apopka 38, Olympia 23, Oct. 6
The defending Class 8A state runner-up blew out to a 31-3 third-quarter lead and held on for the win. It was the most points in a game and the biggest margin of victory this season for the Blue Darters (3-2).
Apopka got TD runs from Rashad Watson, Noah Morgan, Antwone Robinson, Jayden Safford and Zeldrick Roberts, and a field goal from Hayden Kosiciki.
Olympia (2-3) got a field goal from Jose Colunga, a TD run from Darrian Rango and two TD passes from Juan Gainous.
DeLand 58, Deltona 42, Oct. 7

Junior Javon Ross ran for more than 270 yards and scored six total TDs for DeLand in the “Battle for the Bone” rivalry. Quarterback T.J. Moore ran for TD, passed for another and had more than 250 total yards for the Bulldogs.
Isaiah Robinson threw three TD passes and Jude Santana scored three times to lead the Wolves.

Tohopekaliga 53, Wesley Chapel 14
The Tigers, based out of Kissimmee, got an amazing seven TD passes from freshman sensation Sabby Meassick to remain unbeaten (5-0).
It was the fifth consecutive game this season that Tohopekaliga scored 46 or more points.
“Our team is learning and getting better,” Meassick said. “We have the opportunity to continue to improve. Our team is tight-knit and believes in one another and our coaches.”
Central Florida Christian Academy 42, Vero Beach-St. Edward’s 7
