2018 IN REVIEW

Overall record: 2-9 (2-3 in league, 4th in the Hacienda League). Charter Oak lost 38-14 to Paraclete in the first round of the Division 3 playoffs.

HEAD COACH

Lou Farrar is in his fifth decade coaching Charter Oak. He’s totaled more than 300 victories, and is the winningest active coach in California, per ABC7.

TOP PLAYERS

WR/DB Brandon Guzman, 6-1, 180, Sr.

WR/QB/ATH Joshua Martinez, 6-0, 175, Jr.

QB Joey Bustillos, 5-11, 175, Sr.

OUTLOOK

Charter Oak is in a difficult situation right now. Longtime head coach Lou Farrar is battling cancer while the roster is undergoing some major turnover. We hope that coach Farrar makes a speedy, complete recovery, and is able to continue running the show for the Chargers.

The Chargers’ playoff chances revolve around a core of QB Joey Bustillos and receivers Brandon Guzman and Joshua Martinez.

Bustillos threw for over 1,300 yards last season as a junior. Guzman led Charter Oak with 472 receiving yards last season, and was second in rushing yards with 242. Martinez recorded 191 receiving yards and over 100 rushing yards as well. Martinez also spent some time at quarterback last season. It will be interesting to see if he continues to split reps with Bustillos, or if he transitions out of QB entirely. Guzman is also a standout on defense at DB.
