THREE TO SEE
Rollin Lavon, running back/lineman
Power back who looks for contact. Will step in as a starter for speed back Jake Weber, who had more than 1,300 yards last season. Top returning defender at linebacker.
John Ray, linebacker
Three-year starter. Center of the defense. Had four interceptions last season — a team high.
Heath Yochum, quarterback
All-purpose quarterback, good passer and decision maker. Started six games as a sophomore. Split times with Cameron Ditter first four games, and started the second half of the season. Can run.
OUTLOOK
Selah missed the CWAC district crossover by a game last season. Does it have the talent to crack the top-two this year?
The Vikings replace most of its deep and talented receiving corps from last season, but they are four running backs deep in a single-back system headlined by senior Rollin Lavon. They also have a reliable all-purpose quarterback in junior Heath Yochum, and may have the deepest trio of linebackers in the league.
That’s why head coach Scott Ditter believes the team has the talent to upend defending league champ Prosser, or Toppenish — the first and second place finishers of last season, both of whom Selah narrowly lost to last season.
