THREE TO SEE

Zyell Griffin, receiver/free safety

Speedy playmaker on both sides of the ball. Great size, top athlete in the league.

Jalen Fite, receiver/corner

Second team all-league selection on defense as a sophomore. Speedy wideout poised for a breakout year.

David Grant, lineman

Great size, quick feet and a high ceiling. Coach Christian Swain puts him among the most athletic big men he’s ever coached.

OUTLOOK

Evergreen has a new coach and, it hopes, renewed energy for a senior-heavy team.

Christian Swain spent the past three seasons at Columbia River and before that took Roosevelt (Ore.) from a winless season to league champions in four seasons. Before he can visualize returning the Plainsmen to the winning ways that produced a state championship in 2004 — and consistent winning seasons until 2008 — he wants to see a talented crop of players come together as a team.

Evergreen’s offensive potential hinges on its ability to get the ball to dynamic playmaker Zyell Griffin. He’ll have senior quarterback Carter Monda, a 6-3 standout on the basketball team, getting him the ball.
