THREE TO SEE
Jahsiah Amouzou, tight end
It’s been a while since there was this kind of buzz surrounding young player in program
Marcus Stowers, quarterback
As third-year starter for ex-quarterback, he needs to take more ownership of offense
Darrion Summers, running back
Experience and big-play potential makes 4A SPSL defensive coordinators nervous
OUTLOOK
Every program takes a dip, and it was the Lions’ turn last year, posting their first losing season since 2006.
But with a pair of returning third-year starters in the offensive backfield in Stowers and Summers, and reliable experience in every position group, Bellarmine Prep should be back in the playoff hunt again.
Summers is such an important player for this team. Given his diminutive size, his workload capacity on both sides (RB and CB/FS) is astounding. Pencil him in for another 1,000-yard, 15-touchdown rushing season.
The one real issue the Lions had last season was their lack of playmakers outside Summers and wide receiver Charles Elzie, who is an even better basketball player.
Amouzou is a prime candidate to emerge as that sort of impact player at tight end. He and senior receiver Hayden Wisner-Sadler are expected to be favorite pass-game targets of Stowers.
