Photos: Third-quarter rally lifts Mount Carmel past Loyola Academy in showdown of Illinois unbeatens
The highlight of the Illinois high school football Week 9 schedule was a matchup of two undefeated teams in the SBLive Illinois Power 25 rankings.
The heavyweight showdown lived up to the hype as visiting Mount Carmel rallied in the second half to defeat Loyola Academy 42-37 on Saturday afternoon.
The Caravan, ranked fourth in the SBLive Illinois Power 25, trailed No. 3 Loyola Academy 24-14 at halftime but took control when they scored 21 points in the third quarter and then held off a late Ramblers' comeback attempt.
Mount Carmel (9-0) was led by quarterback Blaine Downey, who threw for three touchdowns and ran for another. Will Nimesheim ran for two scores for Loyola (8-1), while quarterback Jake Stearney threw a TD pass and ran for another.
