Southeast Polk, Algona, Alburnett all roll into state wrestling duals

Top-ranked teams in all three classes have little trouble advancing

For the most part, seeds held true during the regional dual wrestling tournament around the state on Tuesday night.

No. 1 (Class 3A) Southeast Polk, top-ranked (2A) Algona and No. 1 Alburnett (1A) all punched tickets to Saturday’s state meet in Coralville and the Xtream Arena. 

The Rams downed Cedar Rapids Prairie in the finals, 66-2, and will be joined by No. 2 Waverly-Shell Rock, third-ranked Indianola, No. 5 Johnston, sixth-rated Waukee Northwest, No. 8 Carlisle, 10th-ranked Bettendorf and No. 18 North Scott.

North Scott stunned fourth-ranked Linn-Mar, Carlisle edged No. 9 Ankeny and Bettendorf knocked off seventh-ranked Pleasant Valley.

Qualifying alongside Algona in 2A were second-ranked West Delaware, No. 3 Williamsburg, fourth-ranked Sergeant Bluff-Luton, No. 5 Independence, seventh-ranked Winterset, No. 9 Clarion-Goldfield/Dows and 11th-ranked Mount Vernon. 

Don Bosco, Wilton, Jesup, Riverside Oakland, Osage, Nashua-Plainfield and Woodbury Central will compete alongside Alburnett in 1A.
