Michigan high school Athletes of the Week
Aubree Deshetsky, North Branch
In girls volleyball, sophomore Aubree Deshetsky would notch a double-double as she finished the match with 13 kills and 18 digs, while adding three aces to lead North Branch to a Division 2 state championship win over West Catholic, 3-0.
Maddy Vaara, Ludington High School
Senior Maddy Vaara notched herself a double-double as she finished with 19 kills and 18 digs while adding four blocks, one ace, and one assist despite a 3-2 loss to West Catholic in the Division 2 quarterfinals.
Elana Erickson, Forest Hills Northern
Erickson as a star in the Division 1 semifinals against Northville. She had 19 kills, three assists, three aces and 20 digs. She also added 22 kills, six assists, one ace and 27 digs in the Division 1 title game.
Kate Kalczynski, Forest Hills Mercy
Kalczynski was an offense force for Mercy in the Division 1 title game. She had 25 kills in the win, and she had 14 kills in the semifinal win over Clarkston.
Amelia Gagnon, Grand Rapids West Catholic
Gagnon played great defense in the Division 2 title game. She had 12 digs in the match. She also had three assists. She had 11 digs in the semifinal win against Grand Rapids West Catholic.
Makenna Ekkens, Kalamazoo Christian
Ekkens recorded 17 kills and 14 digs in the Division 3 title win, and she had nine kills and 12 digs in the semifinal.
Erica Walker, Clarkston Everest
Walker had an immense 57 assists in the Division 4 victory over Leland. She also had 45 assists in the win over Lenawee Chrsitian.
Isaiah Marshall, Southfield A&T
Senior quarterback and Kansas commit Isaiah Marshall would rush for two touchdowns and throw for two more touchdowns to lead Southfield A&T in a Division 1 semifinal win over West Bloomfield, 40-35.
Sante Gasperoni, De La Salle
Junior quarterback Sante Gasperoni had a big performance for De La Salle in their 45-19 semifinal win over Waterford Mott. Gasperoni would finish with four total touchdowns as he threw for three and rushed for one.
Brett Mueller, Ubly
Senior kicker Brett Mueller would go 3 for 3 on point after attempts, notch five touchbacks, and converted a 54-yard field goal, which marked the fifth longest field goal in MHSAA history to help Ubly past Beal City, 24-6.
Jaden Edington, Corunna
Senior running back/linebacker Jaden Eddington was doing it all for Corunna in their Division 5 semifinal win against Flat Rock, 49-0. Eddington would run the ball 15 times for 111 yards and four touchdowns, while compiling 10 tackles and a sack on the defensive side.
Connor Wolf, Grand Rapids Catholic Central
Senior quarterback Conner Wolf threw for 183 yards and three touchdowns on 12 of 18 passing, while adding nine carries for 69 yards as Grand Rapids Catholic Central defeated Frankenmuth, 35-0, in the Division 5 semifinal.
Jakob Price, Muskegon
Senior fullback Jakob Price put on a performance for Muskegon in their big Division 2 semifinal win over East Lansing, 42-7. Price ran for 308 yards on 28 carries with four touchdowns.
Carson Carswell, Mason
Junior quarterback Carson Carswell finished with 14 completions on 25 passing attempts for 266 passing yards and two touchdowns to lead Mason to a Division 2 semifinal win over Detroit King, 26-20.
Colbey Reed, Belleville
Senior running back Colbey Reed rushed for 228 yards on 13 attempts and four touchdowns to lead Belleville past Davison in the Division 1 semifinal, 63-21.
