Week 5 of the 2023 Mississippi high school football season kicks off tonight and it features one of the best matchups of the year thus far as the No. 5 Picayune Maroon Tide will host the No. 6 Ocean Springs Greyhounds.

It is rare to see two of the Top 10 teams in Mississippi matching up this early in the season, especially a pair of teams in different classifications.

Ocean Springs (4-0) is a squad that could be a potential Class 7A state title contender, but the Greyhounds will be put to the test this week as they are unlikely to face a team better than Picayune (3-1) during the regular season.

For the Maroon Tide, this game presents an excellent opportunity to send a message to the other teams in their class that they are the frontrunners for the Class 6A state championship this season.

If Ocean Springs can pull off the upset, expect to see a shake-up in the Mississippi high school football rankings next week.
