Photos: St. Joseph's Academy tops MICDS for Class 3 District 2 girls tennis championship

A reshuffling of Missouri Class 3 district assignments for girls tennis this season meant the final two teams left standing in 2021 – champion St. Joseph's Academy and runner-up MICDS – could potentially meet for the Class 3 District 2 championship.
They faced off on Wednesday at St. Joseph's Academy and the host Angels once again earned a close 5-3 victory over the Rams.
St. Joseph's Academy, which defeated MICDS 6-3 on Sept. 14, improved to 20-3 this season and remain undefeated against in-state competition.
The Angels took two of the three doubles matches to set the tone and then won three of five singles match – won by sophomores Ali Kennedy (No. 3 singles), Ashley Behan (No. 4 singles) and Peyton Friedman (No. 6 singles).
MICDS junior Rachel Li won at No. 2 singles and senior Stella Kreisel won at No. 5 singles.
The No. 1 singles match – SJA freshman Emerey Gross against MICDS junior Mikaela Mikulec – was stopped when the Angels secured the team victory.
