The Dalles (Oregon) cancels the rest of its football season over injuries and academics

The Riverhawks already had one game canceled earlier this season

The Dalles has had an injury-riddled season on the football field, and now those issues and more have ended the varsity squad's season prematurely.

“Our top priority has been, and always will be, the health and well-being of our student-athletes,” Stephanie Bowen, communications director for the North Wasco County School District, wrote in an email to The Oregonian/OregonLive, adding that the move was caused by a combination of injuries and academic eligibility. “The coaching staff, along with (Athletic Director Billy) Brost, simply do not feel comfortable placing our remaining players’ safety at risk by fielding a varsity squad the final two weeks of the football season.”

The Dalles also had a game canceled earlier this season against Gladstone because of injuries and illness.

The Riverhawks' loss to Pendleton last week ends up as The Dalles' final game of the 2022 season, finishing 1-5.

They were scheduled to play at Madras on Friday.

The Dalles' junior varsity team will continue to play the season.
