Vote: Who has been the best freshman football player in New Jersey so far in 2023?
We are just past the mid-point part of the 2023 high school football season here in New Jersey and there’s no shortage of underclassmen performing at a high level. It’s no surprise that freshmen are showing out in the Garden State as that’s been the case in the past many times over. This list of underclassmen features some of the top freshmen football players we’ve seen or have been on the rise in New Jersey. Take a look at our list and vote for who you feel has been the top performing freshman high school football player in New Jersey.

Here are the nominations:
Jalen Parker, QB, Winslow Township: Parker has put up some big time numbers as a freshman. The signal caller has completed 88-of-145 passes for 1,500 yards and 21 touchdowns to just three interceptions.
Arique Fleming, QB, Elizabeth: Fleming is another quarterback whose numbers have been up there with some of the best in the state. The Minutemen starter has thrown for 1,437 yards and 12 touchdowns.
Anthony Tirico, QB, Seneca: Right behind the aforementioned two quarterbacks is Tirico, who has been just about every bit as good. The 5-foot-10, 170-pound quarterback has completed 84-of-137 passes for 1,120 yards and 11 touchdowns.
Abdul Turay, RB, St. John Vianney: Turay leads all freshmen in the rushing yardage department with 691 yards on 94 attempts. The 5-foot-10, 170-pound back has scored five touchdowns and is averaging 7.3 yards a carry.
Donnyrocco Sosa, LB, St. John Vianney: Among one of the top tacklers, regardless of class, has been the 5-foot-11, 220-pound Sosa. The sturdy linebacker has totaled 87 tackles, at for a loss and one sack.
Karon Ceaser, RB, Penn’s Grove: Averaging one of the top totals per game rushing of any freshman, Ceaser has made it happen. The tailback has rushed for 455 yards on 74 attempts and two touchdowns.
Xavier Sabb, WR, Glassboro: Rated the top freshman in all of New Jersey, Sabb has certainly shown he can play with anyone. The wide receiver has caught 19 passes for 313 yards, three touchdowns.
Ausar Heard, LB, Winslow Township: When looking at linebackers across the state, Heard has impressed his freshman season. The 5-foot-10, 205-pound linebacker has made 58 tackles and two have gone for a loss.
Nyrell Domnie, DT, Snyder: Domnie, who also plays guard on the offensive line, leads all freshman linemen with 3.5 sacks so far this season. Has been a key cog for the Tigers.
Luca Lentini, DB, Haddonfield: Separating himself from all the other freshman defensive backs, Lentini has racked up three interceptions this season.
