ARLINGTON, Texas - David Terrell scored 19 points to lead the Mansfield Summit boys basketball team to a thrilling 75-67 victory over Mansfield Timberview in a district rivalry showdown Tuesday night.

This win held major significance for Mansfield Summit (23-5) not only because of the long-standing rivalry, but because it also tied them with Mansfield Timberview (26-4) for first place in the district, and it was done in an impressive fashion.

Summit quickly jumped out to a 13-point lead in a dominant first half of play, showing out on their opponent's home court.

Terrell led the way for the Jaguars with a number of key buckets down the stretch.

“I was just trying to attack and get downhill,” said Terrell after the game. “I was seeing where my options were at and looking for the right shot.”

The Wolves did not go away quietly, however, and lowered the deficit to eight by the end of the third quarter. The effort would spark an unforgettable fourth quarter.

Timberview’s arena was nothing short of electric as it erupted with energy while the two squads engaged in an incredible back-and-forth battle during the closing period.

Despite Timberview’s best efforts, they failed to get within more than five points of Summit’s lead and suffered just their fourth loss of the year.

Mansfield Summit coach Emund Prichett shared his thoughts on his team's resilience and effort.

“It was definitely a great win for us,” said Prichett after the game. “Great opportunity and great experience for the kids. To get going against the cross-town rival in this environment. I’m glad they got the opportunity to experience it. Glad we came away with the win too.”

He also commented on the team’s mindset going forward, after capturing their seventh consecutive victory.

“It’s pretty much the same,” he said. “We’re here to play our best. Every day we play we want it to be our best game so as we continue to get better, that’s what we’re focused on, getting better every day. I know we got better today, so hopefully, we can continue to do that. ”

The Jaguars will take on the Mansfield Legacy Broncos (20-7) this Friday, looking to capture their eighth straight win.
