Louisiana high school football: Edna Karr stunned by John Curtis Christian
There will be a new No. 1 high school football team in Louisiana heading into the state playoffs next week.
Previously undefeated Edna Karr has spent several weeks atop the Louisiana high school football rankings, but the Cougars were stunned by No. 11 John Curtis Christian in their final game of the regular season.
John Curtis Christian (7-2) won Friday night's showdown by a score of 41-7, handing Edna Karr (8-1) its first loss of the season in dominant fashion.
John Curtis Christian jumped out to a 21-0 lead at halftime and never looked back. The Patriots didn't allow Edna Karr to score until 5:15 remained in the game.
The No. 1 team suffering its first loss of the season was one of two major storylines to come out of this game.
A week ago, many believed a victory in this game for John Curtis Christian would mark a national record for head coach J.T. Curtis Jr.
Curtis led the Patriots to a win over Brother Martin and earned what was thought to be win No. 621 for the longtime coach. That number would tie a national record set by former Summerville (South Carolina) head coach John McKissick.
However, the Louisiana High School Athletic Association released a statement earlier this week saying Curtis is actually 30 (now 29) wins short of tying the record. The discrepancy stemmed from forfeited wins due to alleged use of ineligible players.
Regardless of the ruling on Curtis and his career record at John Curtis Christian, the Patriots just handed No. 1 Edna Karr its first loss of the year.
