Rhett Lowder, former North Stanly and Wake Forest star, taken No. 7 in MLB Draft by Cincinnati Reds
Rhett Lowder, who enjoyed a stellar high school career at North Stanly before becoming a leading force on the mound for Wake Forest, was drafted No. 7 overall by the Cincinnati Reds during the Major League Baseball Draft on Sunday night.
Lowder went 15-0 for Wake Forest this season to go along with an ERA of 1.87 and 143 strikeouts in leading the Deacons to the College World Series. Lowder's win total and strikeouts established new single-season records for the Deacons.
Lowder was also named the ACC Pitcher of the Year for the second straight season and the ACC Male Athlete of the Year.
Lowder excelled in three seasons at North Stanly, going 9-2 with a 1.03 ERA as a sophomore. He followed that up as a junior with a 9-0 record and a 0.61 ERA with 115 strikeouts and seven walks in 68.1 innings.
